In July, the History and Politics department took a group of students to Berlin. The trip is unique as it gives the students the opportunity to experience interrailing as they travel all the way from Leeds to Berlin via train. Travelling by train also significantly reduced their carbon footprint, something that Notre Dame is continuously trying to work on in our efforts to help tackle climate change and working towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which you can find more about here.
Once in Berlin, the students had an action-packed schedule, doing plenty of sight-seeing and exploring culture as well as the history of Berlin. Check out some of their activities below -
- DDR Museum
- East Side Gallery
- Treptower Park
- Olympiastadion Berlin
- Bundestag
- Checkpoint Charlie
- Jüdisches Museum Berlin
- Berlin Euro 2024 Fan Zone (Turkey vs Austria)
- Kaiser Wilhlem Memorial Church
- Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse
Feedback from the trip has been fantastic -
'I really enjoyed my time on the trip. I've made new friends and grown in confidence'
'We got to see so many amazing historical (and pretty) places like the Treptower Memorial Park and the Bundestag Dome!'
'Top class trip! The sites were great especially the Olympic Stadium during Euro 2024'
The trip was a huge success, so watch this space for 2025. Check out some highlights from the trip below with more on the History and Politics Instagram page @ndhispol
