Every year Notre Dame chaplaincy hosts a party for some of our local residents in partnership with the charity 'Caring Together'.
This year over 20 people attended an 'afternoon tea' organised by staff and students from the Health and Social Care department.
Joanne Naylor and Meena Riyat, teachers of Health and Social Care organised a group of volunteers to run the event. The students planned and ran all the activities which included; speed friendship, where groups of students had 2 minutes to go from table to table to help break the ice. This was followed by 'Rock and Roll Bingo' where tables of our guests along with the students identified music from the past 50 years.
An afternoon tea of sandwiches and cakes provided by our catering team, accompanied opportunities to take part in making friendship bracelets, having Henna decorations on a hand, cake decorating or mindfulness colouring in. Jackie Nugent, head of reprographics and a member of our chaplaincy team, helped organise our staff to donate a wide range of bingo and raffle prizes which included an afternoon tea set with caddies of tea and a selection of jams, bottles of prosecco and sherry and a box of biscuits, plus lots of other lovely items.
Catherine Herring, Director of Catholic Life said 'It was obvious how much fun our visitors had. The interaction between the students and our visitors was wonderful to see. My favourite bit was when both young and old did the actions for YMCA!'
This event was an fantastic example of the college living Catholic Social Teaching. Staff and students working together for the common good, standing in solidarity with our local community while honouring the dignity of all.
