On Tuesday, some students attended an online lunchtime careers talk in Law from Clifford Chance. Clifford Chance are one of the 'magic circle' firms (5 most prestigious London headquartered international firms) and offered experiences from different people in the firm and the routes they had taken into Law and joining a top firm. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions to the professionals, one of which was about the hours that you can expect to work as a solicitor. There were some shocked faces at the long hours they can work depending on the department! There was definitely some interest in the travel opportunities that come from working with an international firm from Germany to New York and Singapore to Sydney, the speakers told students about their experience of working in different countries.
Students found the experience useful as many of the questions they had come prepared to ask had already been answered within the talk. For some it was reassurance that people from all different backgrounds can go into Law and that even if you don't study Law at degree level you can still look at routes into it after a degree.
