Grand Opening of St Elizabeth

Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College was delighted to welcome His Lordship, Bishop Marcus Stock, Bishop of Leeds Diocese to bless our new St Elizabeth building. Justine Barlow, Principal, welcomed guests including members of our governing body, Leeds Trinity University, Fr Marc Homsey, Leeds Universities chaplain as well as a number of staff and students explaining that the building's name came from the life of Our Lady immortalized in the stained glass windows in the chapel, where St Elizabeth is seen greeting Our Lady at the Visitation. Bishop Marcus reminded the assembled that education was about bring light to others and that the church, throughout its history, has encouraged learning and the pursuit of knowledge. However, it is what we do with that knowledge that is important, whether it is for good or evil. At the end of the liturgy, Bishop Marcus blessed the building and the learning that would take place in it, while those present sang the hymn 'Be Thou My Vision'  accompanied by one of our student choir on the piano.

At the end Bishop Marcus concluded the ceremony by cutting the red ribbon. All the guests were then invited to a small reception where the bishop spent time speaking to both students and staff.

Thank you to everyone who came to the ceremony - it was a great service and reception. Also a big thank you to Floral Expression in Headingley, who supplied us the wonderful flowers for the occasion.

Justine Barlow, Principal, said, 'It was such an honour for the Bishop to be with us today to open our newest building'.
