A-level History Tudor Lecture

On Tuesday last week upper sixth A-level History students were invited to a lecture on the Reformation during the Tudor period from Professor Sarah Bastow from the University of Huddersfield.

This was a great opportunity for students to revise key materials for their summer exams and learn in more depth about the period. Professor Bastow’s expert insights into the complexities of the Tudor period helped to enrich the students' knowledge and engage them with the historical themes that are central to their course. The lecture focused on key historical debates discussed within university History courses, such as to what extent was Henry VIII's divorce from Catherine of Aragon the primary cause of the English Reformation and whether England had become a Protestant nation by 1547. Professor Bastow also discussed the impact of Henry's wives Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn, as well as key figures such as Thomas Wosley, Cromwell and Cranmer.

The students appreciated the opportunity to experience a university style lecture, giving them a glimpse of their potential future after Notre Dame, this was highlighted by the jam-packed lecture theatre!

One student commented 'I really enjoyed the lecture - Sarah explained the Reformation in such a clear and engaging way. It was a great chance to revise for our exams while also getting a feel for what university lectures might be like. I feel much more confident about this topic now!'
