During the last week of term, the History and Politics department took their Upper Sixth students to Manchester to visit both the Imperial War Museum and People's History Museum. The trip offers students the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum to immerse themselves in the experience of different wars throughout History, including exhibits such as an authentic spotlight from the Berlin Wall and the Big Picture Show. The People's History Museum tells the story of democracy in this country, which supports out students' work on ideologies and ideas. They had the opportunity to see historic banners from the miners, teachers and health care worker strikes, as well as dressing up as NHS doctors, Suffragettes and much more!
Martha Blinston, History student commented on the trip, 'My favourite part of the trip was the people’s history museum as I enjoyed looking around especially at the women’s rights sections. I also loved seeing Notre students getting dressed up or taking part in interactive activities throughout and that everyone was doing them basically together showing how close everyone is and this made the trip very enjoyable'.
History and Politics student, Brian Cieslak said, 'Me and my friend really enjoyed the variety of interactive activities offered in the museum, whether it was dressing up with props or making custom badges. We also really enjoyed learning about the actual history of the people, as well as the political process. A great enrichment for the students'.
Another student reflected on the day, 'Both the Imperial War Museum and the People's History Museum were fantastic. I felt right at home in the communism room in particular and a great and informative day all around'.
