ITV Emmerdale Project

Throughout August the Youth Service ran a project with ITV aiming to make the film and TV industry more accessible. The Youth Service is a council ran service that allows young people aged 11 to 17 years old to get involved in different opportunities, building up their character including confidence, communication, and empowerment. During this project there were drama students from Notre Dame as well as regular Youth Service members. They all attended 3 workshops that were led by the Emmerdale cast, including Roxy Shahidi, William Ash and Ash Palmisciano. Other activities included tours, looking at and performing scripts, Q&As, and audition techniques.

Suri Krishnamma, BAFTA nominated film director and writer commented on the event, 'It was pure joy working with your group. You have some exceptionally talented individuals in there - so I do hope those who have the desire will keep going in what is obviously a hugely competitive and challenging industry. Above all, the respect and discipline your actors gave to the process was really impressive and I know I speak for many of the crew who came away inspired by what we saw.'

One of our students, Ava, commented on the project, 'I loved the format of being given a script and then performing it. I loved how positive and supportive it was!'

The ITV Academy are preparing some useful industry information for the young people to take away and several young people are still commenting how they felt inspired and encouraged to keep pursuing their dreams in the industry.

Thank you so much to Leeds City Council for collaborating with us on this exciting project, and huge thanks to ITV for offering the opportunity to our young people.
