Last week a group of A-level and BTEC Law upper sixth students attended an insight day at the Schofield Sweeney offices in central Leeds. Throughout the visit there was a partner led discussion which gave insight into Schofield Sweeney as a commercial law firm as well the difference routes into a legal career, such as the traditional university route and Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeships. Becca Foster, a former Notre Dame student and Solicitor Apprentice at Schofield Sweeney, led a presentation on the apprenticeship route into law and her experiences one year into her career. The nine students were also able to take part in a legal research activity relating to probate law and a skills analysis session, with a partner and HR director, considering the most important professional skills as a solicitor and how they could evidence this from their own experience in applications and interviews.
This was a fantastic experience for students, giving them a real taste of what life as a solicitor is like and how to achieve their ambition to have a career in law.
