On Tuesday 5th November, some of our A-level Media students were invited to the BBC to attend a talk with their new chairman Samir Shah. Samir had worked in broadcasting for over forty years before taking up the role as Chair of the BBC.
Here, they got to listen first hand to his plans to level up the BBC outside of London. This was a great experience for the students, and it allowed them to gain some professional insight into the inner workings of the world's largest public broadcasting corporation.
Lower Sixth student Joshua Burton said, 'I found the trip to be incredibly helpful as it really showcased just how important the BBC and other Public Service Broadcasters are to our country'.
Erin Myers, Lower Sixth, also reflected on the day, 'I found Samir Shah's speech to be very informative. It was nice to hear how passionate he is about his job and his plans on spreading the BBC to smaller towns to hear from a wider population and on providing a platform for creatives across the UK'.
