In May, Notre Dame student Neil Tchamambe signed his first professional contract with Leeds Rhinos.
This turn of events was no surprise given Neil’s long-term enthusiasm and immense talent for rugby. He started playing in school, joined community club Leeds Irish Clovers, and competed in the National Schools Finals for Corpus Christi is 2018. At that point, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation supported his school, providing coaching in PE sessions and after-school clubs.
Since then, Neil has gone from strength to strength. After a year of working hard from home due to the pandemic, he played his first game in a Leeds shirt in 2021 and scored two tries in a 26-12 win over Hull FC for the Rhinos’ under-17s team.
His club describes him as “an exciting outside back”, and he’s earnt a reputation as a fleet-footed winger and prolific scorer. At Notre Dame, he studies A-level Economics, Maths and PE. On the field, Leeds Rhinos have handed him a professional contract to play in the Rhinos Under-18’s Academy, and he’s also available for Rhinos’ reserves.
