The Crown Prince of Bahrain Scholarship is one established in 1999 by the Crown Price for Bahraini students, providing talented young people the opportunity to learn at the finest international educational institutions, as well as providing scholars with career development support and training, equipping them with the necessary tools to become effective decision-makers.
Sara Khalil from upper sixth has earnt one of the elite scholarships, with just a handful of others (only 10-20!). This will enable her to study at Imperial College London with her university fees, accommodation and living expenses paid for, for all four years. She also got to meet the Crown Prince and shake his hand.
Sara comments on her achievement - 'It started around February of year twelve when I first applied. I got invited to do an English proficiency and aptitude test in March. From these results they chose around 100 student to take part in 2 month summer course during which we did debate competitions, academic writing submissions, IELTS and SAT practice and a CMI qualification. I got to meet so many amazing accomplished individuals and I'm so grateful that I got to experience it all. We then did our IELTS and SAT test which contributed towards who would get the scholarship. At this point I was full of uncertainty I genuinely did not know how I did in comparison to others because in some sense it was a competition . My parents then got a call where they were told that I received the scholarship and I was to meet the crown prince of Bahrain in a few days time. It's a national event that's released on the news and televised so I was very nervous. I also didn't know if my friends had gotten it so it was a lovely surprise to see familiar faces on the day. Overall I am so very grateful to have received the scholarship and all the support that comes with it and I'm happy to represent the country with what I would consider an honour.'
This is a huge achievement and one that Sara should be immensely proud of, as it is one that reflects all her hard work and will set her up in good stead for her future. Well done Sara!
