Today, Hilary Benn - MP for South Leeds and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland visited Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College's PolSoc enrichment group to talk to our students.
Hilary let the students lead the session in whichever direction they chose, through their fantastic questions. He commended that in all his visits to the college, our students have never been shy to ask questions and always get stuck in! This was more the evident on Friday. We had questions surrounding; international relations, particularly the ongoing war in Ukraine, devolved powers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, UK housing issues, and Donald Trump.
Hilary was at the British and Irish Council yesterday with Prime Minister Kier Starmer, and today was visiting Notre Dame - we certainly get some impressive guest speakers in!
Alla Almasri commented - 'I really appreciated that before the talk started he took the time to shake our hands, and talk to us one on one. The experience was really friendly and the questions were well elaborated on'.
Kevin Warnes, Teacher of Politics said 'Hilary is a great friend of the History and Politics Department and of the college. It is always a great pleasure to see him. He was wonderful with our students and is a great ambassador for British parliamentary politics!'
Thank you so much to Hilary Benn for taking the time to talk with our students, it was incredibly insightful.
