On July 2nd, Notre Dame Chamber choir took part in the Leeds Catholic Schools Concert - Singing with the Spirit. Over 200 children across Leeds took part in the concert to celebrate the Diocese of Leeds Schools Singing Programme in the presence of our Bishop Marcus Stock; Director of Education, Kieron Flood; Deputy Director, Rachel Rouse; and Lord Mayor of Leeds, Abigail Marshall Katung.
Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College Chamber choir, led by Lizzie Leather from the Singing Programme sang 'I See the Light' from Tangled as well as joining the assembled primary schools' choirs in a varied programme that included 'Let's Go Fly a Kite' from the film Mary Poppins and 'Christ Be Our Light' a hymn by Bernadette Farrell. One of our students, Lily Waite-Wright, was asked to introduce the guest tenor, Peter Davoren.
Laura Steelyard, Assistant Director of the Schools Singing Programme was very impressed by our students calling them 'good sports' for enthusiastically joining in with choirs from primary schools and taking time to speak with the children.
A number of children from one of our local primary schools, were heard to say 'That's Notre Dame!' when our students arrived, looking up to them as role models of what they will one day be when they come to the college.
Director of Catholic Life, Catherine Herring, who accompanied the students to the event said; 'It was one of those moments that makes me proud to be a teacher at Notre Dame, our students exemplified our Stella Maris virtues of service, kindness, sense of humour and courtesy. The work they have done with Lizzie Leather of the Catholic Schools Singing Programme was showcased beautifully at this concert'.
