Lower sixth Notre Dame student Hollie Sagar is going above and beyond to share her enthusiasm for astronomy with her peers.
Hollie has set up and is running a weekly Astronomy Club that any college student is welcome to attend. She invites in different external speakers, organising this herself. On December 7, John Waterhouse from the Bradford Astronomical Society talked to the club about cosmology. This is pictured above.
After his visit, Hollie Sagar said, “In astronomy club we share a common interest in the wonders of the universe. At our weekly meetings, we do a space-themed quiz followed by a presentation given by one of our members, or a teacher. This can be on any topic in astronomy such as black holes, dark matter, the Apollo missions or even the possibility of extraterrestrial life!
Last week the club welcomed an external speaker- Bradford Astronomical Society’s very own John Waterhouse. He gave a fascinating talk on cosmology; this is the study of the origin and development of the universe and its ultimate fate. This proved very popular and inspired intellectually stimulating discussion in the audience.
If astronomy club sounds like your thing, come to room 38 on Wednesday lunchtimes!”
