Students on a T Level course spend 80% of their time in the classroom and 20% of their time on a work placement, providing them with a genuine experience of the workplace and helping them to transition into highly skilled employment, higher level study or apprenticeship.
Johana Safi Kitumaini, upper sixth T Level Health student, received 'Student of the Month' earlier in January following fantastic feedback from a ward Sister on her placement; 'I just wanted to feedback what a great asset to the team she is! She takes advantage of every learning opportunity offered to her, she uses her initiative and supports the workload of her team whilst working within her scope of practice and her bedside manner is lovely. Johana has really come out of her shell during her time with us. During our staff meeting, the team fed back to me that they agreed she is an asset to the team and they enjoy working with her. Her attitude, knowledge and work ethic has been above the level of some of the undergraduate nursing students that we have had. I'm sure Johana will go far in her nursing career!' Off the back of this fantastic feedback, Johana has been shortlisted for an award during the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust's Apprenticeship Week Celebrations. Johana is the first T Level Health student to be nominated for an award at this event.
Craig Watson, upper sixth T Level Business student, secured a placement with the Bottled Baking Company that begins at the end of April, proving the incredible standard at which our T Level students perform. The director of the company said, 'I was really impressed with his preparation. He'd done plenty of research which I thought was great! And had prepped some content to go through as well as ordering products online from our Amazon shop (because John Lewis has run out). So that was impressive. I chatted to my other half about it (who has recruited lots of people) who said that he’s had people coming in for £70k+ jobs that have done less preparation work.' Jim Mullowney, Head of T Level Business describes Craig as 'a consistent industrious student, who is also keen to develop his skills and knowledge inside and outside of the class. For example he likes to complete online courses as part of his self-development'. We have no doubts that Craig is going to excel on his placement.
From September 2025, we will be running six T Level courses, adding Media, Broadcast and Production, and Legal Services to the mix. We can't wait to see how all the students on their placements get on!
