In Spring 2023 Maria Coyle, teacher of Core RE and department lead of metacognition, became accredited with DialogueWorks as a Thinking Moves trainer. Thinking Moves is a structured approach to thinking about thinking - a framework for metacognition. On 22nd November Maria went to Aquinas College in Stockport to deliver the foundation course to 14 staff. Staff appreciated the chance to 'Look at specific ways to implement the Thinking Moves framework to challenge students and ensure student ownership in the classroom'.
Maria commented 'I love helping colleagues to see that there are surprisingly simple ways of getting metacognition into our teaching and learning, particularly using the A-Z framework. I look forward to hearing how Aquinas College colleagues implement it to support students in their learning and professional development'. The A-Z framework provides a vocabulary for 26 different types of thinking.
It was a great day all round, with Cath Wood, senior ISG Lead and CPD Lead at Aquinas College, thanking Maria saying 'Everyone was buzzing afterwards'.
