It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Tobbell, our first Chair of the Corporation from the foundation of the College who helped transform Notre Dame from a girls' grammar school to a sixth form college. He died yesterday morning, aged 88.
During his 14 years as Chair, Michael appointed many members of staff who helped shape Notre Dame to be the College it is today. This included the College's first principal, Terry Metcalfe, and Director of Finance for 29 years, Mark Shillito. Michael served as Chair from 1989 until retiring in 2003 when former Foundation Governor Margaret Ramsden took over as Chair of the Corporation
Michael also served as a director of the Association of Colleges at a national level from 1997 - 2000.
The Notre Dame community is indebted to Michaels's service, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sad time.
