Congratulations to Notre Dame’s women’s volleyball team, who earnt silver medals at the AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham.
More than 1500 students from 91 colleges took part in 12 different sports at the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, and Willow Sports Centre, Derby from April 22 to 24.
Our team, who study a range of subjects at college, have been honing their skills as part of a volleyball enrichment activity since the start of the year. They travelled to the AoC Championships to represent not only Notre Dame but the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
Over the weekend, they played against Middlesbrough College, Peter Symonds College, and Newcastle Stafford College Group, making it through some tough games to reach the final. In the end, they lost to a very strong Newcastle Stafford team, but are rightly proud of their silver medals.
Volleyball Coach and Head of Modern Foreign Languages Chary Gonzalez-Latham said, “The players tried their very best and the team spirit was fantastic; they supported and encouraged each other throughout the whole weekend. I am extremely proud of the team and I’m sure next year they will win many competitions as they have all improved enormously.”
Team captain Lisa Torsello added, “It was a very difficult competition, but we kept playing our best.”
